Fem Thor Cosplay, Who Wore it Best? San Diego Comic Con 2014
As some of you may know, I recently went to San Diego Comic Con 2014 :D
It was a blast! So much excitement and running around!!
Of course there were a lot of people dressed up in costumes, expressing their fandoms, favorite characters/superheros. It was ultimately an amazing experience meeting so many new people and catching up with old friends :D
I came back home and was directed to CNN.com where they post(ed) pictures of cosplayers from the convention. And I was shocked to see that I made it on the front page! Whoah, awesome! I was recognized for my work and that made me feel pretty darn proud of myself.
But then I read the article.....
I have to say I am a bit peeved that CNN would have something like this and that I was represented in it. (Although I can't say I'm too surprised something like this exists).
I enjoy and love cosplay of ALL types. It's a fun way of saying, "Hey! I love this character, I love this series!" I am not a fan of things turning into a competition or making one look bad over another.
A couple years ago when I started cosplaying, I dressed as Harley Quinn. And I don't have a sewing machine, I didn't then...so my costume was (lack of a better word) lame. I really didn't know cosplay was this huge thing. But all I knew was that I wanted to dress as one of my favorite villains.
Well I was put onto an article just like this, being compared to a very well known cosplayer, Jessica Nigri (who is fabulous) and holy cow, I was thrashed left and right. I was crushed beyond belief and almost wanted to stop dressing up all together. NOT RIGHT.
No one should ever feel lesser or feel like they're not good enough to cosplay. We are ALL just having fun, expressing our love for our favorite characters, and just being GEEKS TOGETHER.
I think we BOTH look pretty darn amazing. And LOVE the fact she dressed up as Thor. You go girl <3
